Friday Morning Constitutional: Standoff With Well-Armed Man in Berkeley ends peacefully


  • Berkeley police arrested a man Thursday afternoon after a three-hour stop around his car. The man had guns in the car, and was initially unresponsive and apparently intoxicated, but the confrontation ended peacefully, and the guns were seized. [Berkeleyside / Bay City News]
  • Police in Santa Rosa made a finding regarding during a routine stop for a car code violation early Friday. Officers saw a gun at the feet of one of the four men in the car, and they ended up digging the car and found three guns with full magazines, ski masks, and latex gloves. [KRON4]
  • SFPD says it has arrested a suspect in connection with an armed robbery June 14 at a donut shop on 5th Street. The suspect is 38-year-old Oakland resident Craig Avery Smith who was on probation at SF for possession of stolen property. [CBS SF]
  • In her first advisory on the job, U.S. surgeon general Vivek Murthy urged social media companies to further combat misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines, calling it a problem of life and death. [KRON4]
