‘SoHo Karen’ now faces hate crime charges, pleaded not guilty in NYC court

Miya Ponsetto, a 22-year-old California woman who accused Keyon Harrold Jr., a 14-year-old Black boy, stole her iPhone and reprimanded her at the Arlo Hotel in Manhattan, was charged Wednesday and pleaded not guilty for criminal offenses hate crime charges, sue remotely.

Among the charges: illegal imprisonment, endangering children and aggravated harassment.

The incident in December made more national headlines in January, following an interview with Gayle King’s “CBS: The Morning” in which Ponsetto was the celebrity’s news correspondent, call himself “super sweet” and he said he could not racism because of its part-Puerto Rican heritage.

“You seem to not regret, there is no contradiction,” King told Ponsetto at one point during the discomfiting Q&A.

It also seems as if Ponsetto is now being represented by different legal counsel, after lawyer Sharen Ghatan – who sat next to his client in the royal interview – told reporters that Ponsetto was go-script during the interview.

His new lawyer, Paul D’Emilia, called the allegations “a perversion of our legal system.”

“The allegations are excessive and clear in the intent of the law,” D’Emilia said in a statement to media outlets. “In sum, they are absurd, and a perversion of our legal system.”

The Harrold family also got into the legal battle, filing a lawsuit against Ponsetto and the hotel for racial profiling. They were represented by celebrity attorney Ben Crump.

Ponsetto’s next court date is scheduled for Oct. 20, where he is expected to appear in person.
